• Religious Diversity in Urban Africa: Exploring Modes of Coexistence (IFG 7)

    2-4 November 2022
    IDL Conference Center, KNUST

African cities have been undergoing considerable transformations in recent times. The significant role and impact that religious communities are competing for and benefiting from these transformations in African cities, however, have not attracted much interest. This conference focuses on how people of various religious groups encounter and co-exist with one another in African cities. Researcher from various disciplines analyse the multi-faceted entanglements that religions navigate in these settings and the broader impact that they have on the social and political dynamics in urban Africa.

  • GSA Triennial Conference

    18-20 July 2022
    University for Development Studies, Tamale

The 4th Triennial Conference Theme is “Ghana at Crossroads” because 2022 marks Ghana’s 65 years of independence. Ghana is at an inflection point and is thus due for a complete evaluation of its governance, economy, and society. Building on the last GSA Triennial’s exploration of “Ghana as Center,” the 2022 conference asks participants to consider Ghana as and at a crossroads—in geographies; in networks of people and ideas; in disciplines and knowledge systems; and between past, present, and future. Thinking of crossroads asks us to move from territorially defined understandings to those that are characterized by networks and flows.
