The origins of Jackson Park is linked to the rise to prominence, in 1920s Asante, of Association Football. Football was a popular sport in colonial Kumase. This convinced government officials that like other sports such as horse racing and golf, Kumase needed an official venue where football could be played.

In 1935, officials sanctioned the decision to reserve and develop the current location of Jackson Park into a football park. Many great teams such as Asante Kotoko and Corner Stone have played games on this park. In the photos you see former players who played at Jackson Park involved in a game of football.
