The Babul Salam Mosque is a significant monument to the long association of Jackson Park with the Muslim residents of Kumase, and particularly the Yalewa Zongo. The site for Jackson Park was originally the Muslim Cemetery for Kumase.

When the decision was made to create a football park for Kumase, the site was reclaimed and redeveloped. Jackson Park’s mosque therefore continues to signify the enduring history of Muslim presence in Kumase, capital of the historic Asante Kingdom.
